On December 11, 2022 Lunar Flashlight hitched a ride aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral to begin its two-month journey to lunar orbit. Science team member David Paige was able to visit the launch pad before launch and take a picture of Lunar Flashlight waiting on the pad.

Other members of the science team attended the long-awaited launch after the mission was postponed from the previous launch date of November 15 due to the Artemis I mission.

Lunar Flashlight is now only weeks away from its Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM) that will allow it to be captured by the Moons gravity.
